ThermoAnalytics Chosen for $730,000 Phase II SBIR to Develop Rapid Thermal Analysis Tool

August 10th, 2004

ThermoAnalytics is underway to develop another important advancement in the field of thermal modeling. In collaboration with Dr. Madhukar Vable of Michigan Technological University (MTU), ThermoAnalytics will provide the United States Army with an expedited process by which designs for new Army vehicles can be rapidly developed, tested, and extensively simulated without a physical prototype. The contract involves developing advanced mesh improvement techniques and incorporating faster solution methods into existing thermal analysis software.

Because new technologies are complex and extremely expensive to develop, this rapid thermal modeling process allows for the exploration of more design possibilities and greater optimization early in the design process. This will yield more robust technology for the Army and will provide vehicles developed at a much lower cost than other traditionally-designed products.

“This technology will represent a substantial step forward in engineering. It will allow designers to streamline the otherwise lengthy thermal modeling process, allowing for faster development of more advanced designs at a much lower cost than ever before,” says Engineering Manager Scott Peck.

ThermoAnalytics will develop this software as part of the U.S. Army’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. SBIR awards are chosen based on a project’s scientific and technical merit, as well as its future importance and eventual value to the Army, the company’s capabilities, and the commercial potential of the developing project. The $730,000 contract is competitively awarded.

Founded in 1996, ThermoAnalytics, Inc. is an employee-owned company with its headquarters in Michigan's scenic Upper Peninsula.
